Black Horse Foundation
Our charitable foundation – the Black Horse Foundation, forms a major part of our commitment to corporate responsibility and supports our objective of helping to improve the lives of people in need.
The Foundation operates as an independent company, working with charitable and not-for-profit organisations across the country.
Since its launch to colleagues in 2006, the Foundation has contributed more than $3 million to a long list of causes including the homeless, disadvantaged youth, indigenous youth, the sight-impaired, water-safety and education.
Our 2011 charity partners are Heartkids and Redkite.
HeartKids is unique in that it is the only organisation in Australia solely focussed on all aspects of children’s heart disease. HeartKids offers support to families of children with heart disease, be it congenital (born with) or acquired. They also partner with leading cardiologists and researchers and fund important research which aims to reduce the incidence of CHD and improve the mortality rates currently being experienced.
Redkite is a national charity that supports children and young people with cancer and their families through the entire cancer journey. From the moment of diagnosis, throughout treatment and when families return home to their communities, Redkite is available with real and practical support. Redkite’s vital services include emotional, financial and education support and are available to families in all major cities, regional areas and remote locations across Australia.
The Foundation’s philosophy is to create sustainable partnerships that deliver real value. We involve our business partners, our colleagues and their families in providing assistance through dedicated resources and financial support.
Our activities focus on a number of areas:
1. Fundraising
The Foundation facilitates various colleague fundraising activities. Colleagues’ funds are then matched on a dollar for dollar basis by Lloyds International.
2. Volunteering
The Foundation also facilitates a colleague volunteering program, providing direct volunteer opportunities and strong encouragement to take part in supporting the communities in which colleagues live and work. Annual awards run by both Lloyds Banking Group and Lloyds International recognise colleagues and teams for outstanding volunteering efforts.
In addition to supporting our charity partners, colleagues are able to support other causes and organisations which they feel passionate about. These additional volunteering and fundraising efforts are recognised by the Foundation, including through the provision of bonus annual leave and matching fundraising proceeds.
